I have a very easy craft to share with you today! One thing that I think most mother’s of very young babies can agree on is that nap time is essential. So today I will show you how you can make a doorbell sign to prevent visitors from waking your little angels.
The supplies you will need are:
5″ x 7″ Canvas
Painter’s or washi tape
Metallic gold spray paint
UV Resistant Clear Spray
Take your painter’s tape/washi tape and create a random geometric design on your canvas. Make sure that your tape is pressed onto the canvas well as you do not want any paint to seep through when you go to spray it.
Lay down some newspaper or a drop cloth outside and spray your canvas with 2 coats of metallic gold paint. Let the paint dry for 20 minutes and then peel the tape off to reveal your background design.
Now, on to the brush lettering fun. If you are not comfortable free handing the letters, you can always type out the wording, print it out, and transfer it to the canvas using tracing paper. Then you can use the paint to carefully draw out your letters. I have been trying to practice my brush lettering, so I lightly sketched my letters with a pencil first and then used the black acrylic paint to create them.
After the acrylic paint has dried, use a UV resistant clear glossy spray (I used the Krylon brand) and spray the canvas. Again, make sure to do this outside. The UV resistant spray will help protect your colors and keep them from yellowing. Spray 2 coats of this. Then seal your work with 2 coats of polyurethane spray. This prevents your art from letting moisture in and creating mildew.
And then you are all done!
Before, I had an ugly sticky note just taped to our doorbell.
Now, I have a pretty piece of personalized art!
I love how the canvas fits right over the doorbell so that no one can ring it! And you know what that means? Nice, long, quiet nap times for our little one!
