Teaching My First Private Art Class

One of the coolest things that I have learned about being a business owner is how people who once were complete strangers could become your biggest supporters and fans.

In September of last year, I had been tossing around the obstacle of trying to find venues that would be willing to host my art workshops. And that was when my sweet friend, Kristin Doherty (owner of GymGuyz in Williamsburg), looked over at me and asked, “Have you ever thought about having private lessons or classes in peoples’ homes? I would love to have one.”

Now, why didn’t I think of that?

Funny enough. The idea of private classes or lessons had never dawned on me. But thank goodness for amazing business gal pals like Kristin that are just removed enough from our constant hustle that they can see opportunities that are sitting right in front of us.

So on November 18, 2023, Kristin hosted a beautiful private art workshop in her home. As a celebration of Kristin’s birthday, she invited all of her closest friends and we had a whopping 17 ladies attend this cute little watercolor class.

Since the holidays were right around the corner, Kristin requested that I teach them how to paint watercolor floral holiday ornaments.

I was a little worried that it would be a challenge to teach that many women at one time (you know we love to get chatty) but every woman there was so respectful, kind, and attentive to what I was teaching them.

Here are just a few photos of the glorious day:

At the end of it all, I was mentally exhausted (hello, introvert) but man, did I love EVERY SECOND of teaching there. Being surrounded by strong, independent women and seeing them take the time to breathe deeply and create is worth all the work that I put in to plan these workshops.

And I just cannot wait to do it all over again.
