Last month, I received an email from my sweet friend Hillary from Creative Faith and Co. She asked if I was willing to collaborate with her again on another devotional. Without an ounce of hesitation, I happily agreed. She went on to tell me that the devotional would be a part of her “Produce in Me” series and that I would be writing about gentleness.
And that’s when my heart dropped.
Yikes…gentleness?! I think I may be the wrong person for this one.
Gentleness. One of the fruits of the spirit. It is actually the one I seem to wrestle with the most. For most people that meet me, this may seem a bit farfetched and you may be quick to think that I am overreacting. But I will warn you. Behind that quiet visage is a sleeping giant that sometimes lies within my soul. And it seems to rear its ugly head when I am overly stressed, overly exhausted, and just – well, done.
I thought on this topic for days and honestly was scared out of my mind to show my readers my ugly side. But the truth is that I began to believe that God wanted this for me. It was almost as if He were pushing me to. I think it’s in these times that we are vulnerable that we become the most relatable to our readers. And it was time that I did just that.
And so when I finished typing my rough draft in my comfy corner of the local Panera Bread, I sat back and found myself actually smiling at the screen. It was almost as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. My readers would again have a glimpse of the imperfect individual behind the seemly perfect posts and images. The good. The bad. And the downright ugly.
Boy, I hope she likes this.
And with heart of courage, I clicked the send button and off the email went.
To my joyous surprise, Hillary thought it was perfect and we both set on finalizing our devotional. Amazing how God works, right?
Hillary did a phenomenal job on the graphics! I can’t help but fall in love with this cute little bear she made. Isn’t it so adorable?!
And so there it is folks…and we hope that you love it as much as we do!
